In November of 2023, KarMa GIS Consulting Services was selected as one of the business spotlights by the Town of Riverview. During my interview, I created a map to highlight the impact of GIS and its importance. This map demonstrates the small but influential nature of Riverview. Even though it is geographically separated from Moncton by the Petitcodiac River, Riverview has its own unique community and culture. The town offers all the necessary amenities and services, while still retaining its small-town charm. I would like to express my gratitude to the Town of Riverview for their support of local businesses through these spotlights, and for their role in making my hometown the amazing place it is today.

Welcome to Retirement Miramichi! My parents have been living in this community of retirees for over 10 years and they absolutely love it. It is a quiet and friendly place nestled in a cozy corner of what was once known as Chatham, NB (now Miramichi).
The community was previously a part of CFB Chatham, a thriving army base that was home to many families from 1940 to 1996. In 1997, it was reutilized and transformed into Retirement Miramichi, which is a private, non-profit corporation established specifically to enhance the economy of the region. Retirement Miramichi offers a variety of affordable rental homes to retirees from all over.
This map is being included in Retirement Miramichi's information package they send across Canada.
The fishing season is a significant event in the charming town of Miramichi. Once, I was lucky enough to step out of my front door and witness a flurry of fishermen, both on the riverbanks and in their boats, enjoying the outdoors and sharing some laughs.
Miramichi is my mother's hometown, and my parents currently reside there. It's a peaceful, beautiful city with small-town charm and a distinct accent.
Swallow Tail Lighthouse has always been my favorite since visiting the island as a kid. I always felt that my dad was so lucky to have grown up there, so close to the ocean and everything living in it.
Grand Manan is a must visit island, located in the Bay of Fundy between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Beach combing, whale watching, bird watching, hiking and much more awaits!
One of my favorite spots in Miramichi, both when I used to live there and now when I visit my parents, is the Middle Island Irish Historical Park. It's a hidden gem situated in the middle of the picturesque Miramichi River. Located on the east side of the city, it can be accessed by car or on foot, and makes for a wonderful day out. The park is equipped with numerous picnic tables, shelters, benches, and a wealth of historical information. My all-time favorite, though, is the walking paths which are perfect for a leisurely stroll with my pup. If you ever happen to be in the area, I highly recommend checking it out!
Art in Your Face is an annual art show held every summer on the Riverview Riverfront. The show takes place during the first weekend of Riverview Sunfest in Riverview, NB. This year's show featured 40 artists, and as always, it was a great success.
Marion Deschenes, the organizer of the show and owner/operator of Fuzzyclouds Studio, asked me to create a map for the pamphlet given to guests. It was the first time a map was included, and it was a huge success. Going forward, we plan to use the same map with a few minor adjustments to promote Art in Your Face and its amazing artists.
This map was created to raise awareness about mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week. Although mental health problems are not enjoyable, it is crucial to acknowledge and comprehend them.
Data visualization through a map is an excellent way to present a quick overview of data that may otherwise be challenging to understand. Layering the data with colors and charts can also be beneficial when searching for correlations in your data. In this map, the pie charts look similar because the data percentages were very close in each health zone.
